Why do I have to be "dunked" when I get baptized?
The word "baptize" means to “dip” or “immerse.” In Jesus’ day it was even used of dipping something in dye to color it. Because of this, full immersion in water was the universal practice of the entire early church. Even the Catholic Church immersed until the middle ages. More importantly, going under the water and coming back up best pictures being buried with Christ and raised up with Him.
